As we age, our memory gradually deteriorates.
Not only that, but the contents of what we remember become hazy. It becomes unclear whether something is something you actually experienced, something you heard from someone else, something you imagined, something you read in a book, or even something you dreamed. It is frightening, but it is reality.
Life is like a dream. As described in “Zhuangzi,” when we wake up from a dream and realize that it was a dream, our present may also be a dream.
Since I am like that, it seems to me that other people are experiencing more or less the same thing. I am sure that the same is true for those who have become famous or great.
Thinking about it, I would like to make this life as enjoyable a dream as possible.
Of course, it would be best if real life were as enjoyable as it is. And I would like to make efforts and cooperate as much as possible to make my own life more fulfilling and to improve the world.
On the other hand, however, there are two things that we can do subjectively on our own. The first is to think of the life we have been given as enjoyable as possible. Any fact or life can be interpreted in any way depending on one’s way of thinking. You can be thankful for your life, even if it may be ordinary and boring.
The second is to broaden one’s imagination and live a cheerful life. One way to do this is to read enjoyable novels, watch good movies, trace the history of mankind, and listen to great music. These things should be enjoyed as broadly and deeply as possible. Accumulating these experiences will lead to the ultimate happiness in life.
I hope to dream a happy dream in this short life.
